Injectable Fillers

Botulinum Toxin
A wide range of facial expressions and movements are generated by continuous activity of underlying muscles. Relaxed skin tension lines are natural and are an important component of facial appearance and expression. Over time, fine lines become deeper persistent wrinkles, creating a tired and stressed look. This ages the overall facial appearance and reduces the spectrum of facial expression. Muscle relaxing injections with botulinum toxin reduce the intensity of muscle contractions and therefore the appearance of wrinkles. The goal is a refreshed rejuvenated natural appearance without creating an expressionless face. Muscles relax within a few days of being injected and the effect lasts up to about four months. They may be repeatedly injected in order to maintain a smooth appearance.
Several parts of the face may be addressed, depending on your main areas of concern and findings on examination. These are often the forehead, glabella, crow’s feet, marionette lines as well as a gummy smile. It is an office based procedure that takes minutes to perform with no down time. How long do the effects last?
This may be quite variable, however in most cases wrinkle relaxers last 3-4 months. Dermal fillers last anywhere between 6-18 months depending on the effect that is desired, the skin type and what filler is used.
What is the recovery like?
Wrinkle relaxers do not usually have any downtime. Apart from mild tenderness at the site of injection, no noticeable reaction to the injection should be present.
Avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours.
Dermal fillers may cause some swelling and redness at the injection site. Cool packs may help reduce downtime associated with this.
